Morning Brief: Facebook isn’t restricting fake news from notorious site – iPolitics

One the same day another fake news piece on Liberal leader Justin Trudeau was circulated by thousands of users on Facebook, company executives confirmed the social media platform wouldn’t ban content from the Buffalo Chronicle, one of the top websites responsible for false news.

Facebook Canada told reporters on a teleconference call on Tuesday that it’s continuing to rely on existing deterrence measures — efforts that haven’t stopped users so far in the election campaign from sharing and reading the fake news.

The latest article about Trudeau from the Buffalo Chronicle made unsubstantiated claims about the Liberals’ increased security measures at a rally on the weekend and had been shared on Facebook almost 4,000 times on Tuesday.
